Cancer is defined as the uncontrollable growth of cells that invade and cause damage to rounding tissues. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. In India, particularly in rural areas, cervical cancer is prevalent among the women. Every year more than 1,32,000 women are detected cervical cancer and more than 74000 women cannot escape from the jaws of sure death .The incidence of cancer is increasing so rapidly that it is important to step up cancer literacy and knowledge amongst the population. We hope this early awareness will lead to early detection which is important in the management and treatment of cancer and also prevention by making necessary changes in life style. Due to ignorance, fear, social stigma and poverty many women felt in stage III or stage IV cancer which requires surgery and extensive treatment and lastly surrender to death.

The symptoms of cervical Cancer is written in our Leaflet and website: www.gwskolkata.in

There are 100 types of HPVs (Human Papilloma Virus) and only certain types have been linked to cancer. Screening with Pap test can reduce the risks of cancer that begins in the cervix. Cervical cancer can be life-threatening if it goes undetected and untreated. It can be prevented by getting HPV vaccine also.

.
Breast Cancer: A cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts. Breast cancer occurs mainly in women and rarely in men.

Symptoms of Breast cancer is written in our separate leaflet and website, www.gwskolkata.in

Tests and procedures used to diagnose breast cancer are also given on the same as said above.

Oral cancer also called oral cavity cancer may develop in any part of the mouth. Risk factors include tobacco use, heavy alcohol use and HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) infection. It belongs to a larger group of cancers called head and neck cancers. Most develop in the squamous cells found in mouth, tongue and lips. Oral cancers are easily accessible for inspection thereby allowing early detection.

.
The treatment procedure and symptoms are also written in the Leaflet and website of Garia Welfare Society.

It is important to create awareness among community through educational programs on cancer prevention, preventable cancer risk factors, benefits of early diagnosis and availability of screening facilities.

Since 2013, Garia Welfare Society (GWS) has been organizing from 2013 several awareness programs, screening camps in and around Garia, rural areas like district villages, semi urban area near Kolkata in collaboration with Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute ( CNCI ), Kolkata and with the assistance of local NGOs and eminent personalities.

Cancer affected patients are provided counseling support, admission to both Govt. and private hospitals and some  financial assistance to deserving cases.

Now a days we are realizing that we have to arrange more screening camps in every community having at least 100 habitants, as no unnecessary mother death within the age of 30 to 60 years occurs due to such type of women cancer as vivid above. We are also observing there is insufficient infrastructure to organize such type of screening camp in the rural villages to keep privacy of the women. As there are no School building or Club houses with the accommodation of sanitary or privacy infrastructure.  So we have to arrange an automobile ambulance with the full accommodation of random women cancer screening ability.

We GWS hospitalizes the poor cancer patients when they are detected. The treatment cost is absolutely free, but they deserve the Nutritional food, fruit, costly medicine and sometimes immediate pathological test. But due to the bad economical condition they cannot afford such type of problems. In some cases, the ambulance cost, the cost of staying of the family members of the patients somewhere near the Hospitals is almost 15000 to 25000 per month which is hard for them because the family income is only Rs7000 to Rs12, 000 per month. The income is nil, at the time of treatment when they are residing near the Hospital.  So, the cancer sufferer family can not treat the cancer patient till patient is going to death.

So, GWS needed volunteers to solve or assist such type of problems to detect, to alive to treat the unfortunate cancer patient. Any individual in spite of age, cast, gender, education, and economical condition can be the Health volunteer of GWS. The form is available in the website.

GWS needed partners to finance the Women cancer Detection Camp and Cancer Detection ambulance cum Automobile, pathological ability, Counseling ability both for patient and their families with cost of the Partners’ advertisement or CSR fund.  GWS dreams to see a ‘Mother and Child cancer free World’.
